I am intrigued to discover that although fuel tankers can't leave Grangemouth in this weather and Tescos is out of petrol and diesel the s**t tankers are still getting through. We are currently importing high grade sewage from Dunbar!!! to keep our system going as there is too much water in it.

Major embarassment for Seil that our folks can't produce good enough sewage !
Good ideas are needed how we can improve the quality. Dodgy curry anyone ? Maybe Seil people are too clean-living compared to people from Dunbar ... or is all the bad bacteria going on the local compost heaps ? Any other theories ?

Not something I would like to divulge on a public forum but the quality of Sewage in Drumlithie improved when Nick moved to Seil.

About 2 weeks ago I was 'phoned by Scottish Water who stated that officials from them would call on me to discuss the concerns I had about the system and the shortfall in their 'promises' - (let's not go there again!)

They were supposed to be here last Thursday-anybody else get a similar promise??

Just heard that the imported stuff didn't work so the tankers are now taking it away instead of bringing it in. You couldn't make it up!

We are not alone.
Bonawe citizens are also suffering from a completely futile non-working Scottish Water sewage system and they, too, are having to have their doings tankered out. (Today's Oban Times, "Half-built sewage plant causes a stink".) And theirs only cost £1.5m!
It has got to be time for SECC to get together with Ardchattan CC, contact other CCs throughout the country to find out who else is suffering from SW "improvement" projects - because doubtless there are others in the same boat - and hit the press big time (no, no, not the Oban Times ...) with our long, long list of unresolved complaints and problems. No more pussyfooting about politely knocking on SW's (and all their subsidiaries') firmly closed doors and getting the runaround.
Go for it, Community Councillors. HIT 'em.

It appears though that it is stopping contamination of the seawater round seil, some shellfish boys are reporting A grade water nearly all year round now......

At this week's Community Council meeting Scottish Water's regional waste water manager admitted that she would not choose to fit this type of system again.

Two years on the system is still not working properly because of water infiltration. The cost has been £90,000 per household, meaning that for ourselves our connection to the sewage system is worth about the same as our house. The ongoing cost is £100,000 per annum, or about £600 per prooperty. The end result has been that when we flush stuff goes away (which it did before) - and there is sometimes a smell at the shop. What progress!

I have yet to see any published (or visual) evidence that the water quality in the bay has improved significantly (though it would be nice to think it had).

Here's what some optimists said back in 2008/2009:

: I confidently predict that the majority in the "happy camp" will increase massively . . . within a couple of years you couldn't tell the work had been through there it was so completely restored

BB cannot leave site without the sewage plant working correctly, finishings (reinstatements) to anything that the works have disturbed

Get real, get modern. And don't believe every wee man down a hole. Mains sewage treatment is millennia old, not rocket science, just common sense and science.

We live in a country that thinks it's fine to spend half to one million quid per missile into Libya/Afghanistan/Iraq so, in my opinion, you can forget the financial grief about modernising our island's sewage system. If we are honest, much of the environmental chaos at the time is now resolved. Yes, there are remaining difficulties which will hopefully be fixed soon and yes you are entitled to a bit of a whinge, but I for one remain optimistic! Have faith!

There seems to be mixed views on the outcome of all this sewage business, but no-one seems to have thought of asking the marine life in the sound, what they think of their new environment. One oyster I spoke to the other day, said that he/or she was very grateful for my noble efforts in saddling myself with doubled sewage charges in perpetuity on his/her behalf. He/she (how do you tell the difference?) also mentioned that some of his/her number had considered emigrating to the Firth of Lorne, but had decided against it meantime to see how things pan out here.

Hi, As your former unelected local spokesperson for the water quality in the sound I have to announce that I have now retired and like the Barcelona waiter 'I know nussing!'

Some time ago in this forum I did ask that any of the shellfish farmers in the sound post something on the water quality since the new scheme went in. Since then - silence!

Anybody in the know??
