Clachan Seil windfarm. Against it? Not really bothered?
Let's get down to the nitty gritty and stop shilly shallying around. What really are the views of this little community?
A simple poll (and no multiple voting please Mr swarm aka sleepy aka the crimson vicar, aka herby dice etc.)

Something wrong with the site - it seems impossible to register a valid vote. Is this a fix, just like in real life?! Moderator, please check.

It's not a fix , it's a glitch. I know that for some reason the board style previously in use was not properly updated when the board version was last updated, and I reverted to an older style. I am unable to get to the root of the problem quickly and don't have time to look into it further right now. (I have already had to spend hallf an hour re-customising the style after refreshing it in an attempt to find a quick fix).
I don't think it is any great loss though, particularly in this instance. Why have a poll on the issue before the public meeting in the hall on Wednesday the 3rd? Let's let people see the presentation first.
(And as we all know only members of the forum can vote in polls and the actual number of members of this forum - as opposed to its readers - is small and probably unrepresentative).
So sorry folks - polls are off the menu for now. I would recommend to PACT - and to any other group or individual on Seil wishing to conduct an opinion poll or survey - that they use Survey Monkey - it is a much more professional and comprehensive package than then polling system built into this forum software.

Re: Clachan Seil windfarm. Against it? Not really bothered?
Why resurrect an old thread from last year that was about the Raera proposal? Confusing to say the least. I have already explained that the code that controls polls on this forum is broken due to a conflict with the templating system. New poll, old poll the result is the same - the form submitted was invalid. Feel free to set up another forum if you consider ths one 'amateurish' - I didn't realise you had such a keen interest in web design.longshanks wrote:Shame the software on this foruim is amateurish in regard to setting up new polls. Anyway MacB may be pleased to see I found this old one which should still work; just set it back to zero wwwebguru and away ye go.
Interesting to have another one after the big public meeting on the 3rd to see how far it swayed people's opinion.

I am sure that PACT will organise a survey of local opinion in due course, and that it will provide a more representative sampling than a straw poll of the handful of active members on this forum.

I didn't mean to upset you McB so obviously I owe you one.NickB wrote: the code that controls polls on this forum is broken ................ Feel free to set up another forum if you consider ths one 'amateurish' - I didn't realise you had such a keen interest in web design.
Its just that if my, say, for example, hosepipe happened to be "broken" I would fix it hence it seemed logical to me that if your, as owner of this forum, code is broken then you, as one of those computer type guys, would fix it. Hey Ho.
Actually you're well wrong about me having a keen interest in web design. Not at all. I leave that for those whose station in life is to do such things. Don't take that personally or as insult for goodness sake ! Just stating a fact of life.
So
How about a nice wee poll then?
This forum used to be so active and entertaining a couple of years ago, partly kicked off by polls.
Its really died since then. Lets get the old spirit going....bring back Spiderman, Monalott, Pentland P and all the others who've dropped out!
How about it McB ?
Gissusapoll!

Too difficult to fix quickly . . . it isn't a hose. The problem is style-related, as I discovered just now when messing about - hence the one vote. However, it might take me half a day or more to fix - or I might break it completely - and I have too much work on at the moment. Sorry.
I don't agree however that polls are a vital part of forum life - I think there are other reasons fewer people are posting. Perhaps they are all too busy? I will however make an attempt to fix it at some point in the not too distant. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Re: Clachan Seil windfarm. Against it? Not really bothered?
Thanks in advance, Nick B. I agree with (Danny) Longlegs that polls on this blogsite serve a useful purpose and never more so than on this occasion when we are faced with a War of the Worlds type invasion of alien giant machinery looming over our nice wee island.
Plus I think your tone re the remaining supporters of this website is a trifle condescending and defeatist. Let's get the chat site up and running again. This needs a positive and forgiving leader not someone who is, if anything, sneering slightly at its residual contributors! We need more positivity from the top. As to the silent majority, let's be havin' ye! What's the point of privately reading these blogs and not participating? Particularly, in the context of the proposed windfarm which will transform our scenery and wildlife, it's a disgrace if you care, look on and don't comment here (and indeed everywhere else0. Thanks, Longlegs, for at least trying to start a test of public opinion. However, Longlegs, I do slightly resent your comment that I am one of those who has dropped out of this blogsite - may I point out that it was me that started the thread on the Clachan wind farm proposal which is the main topic and in its 6th page? Ride on, Seil Chat!

Mmmmmm how the little middle classes get upset.
There`s that old saying you don`t own your view unless you own it
You lot wan`t all the advantages without paying for them you're all little Cameron Mackintoshes but without the readies.
Cameron is a gggreat guy, hates wind turbines, hates shellfish farmers and he hates tenant crofters who have the temerity to buy their croft which is their right.
I`m sick of the same old arguments but they're subterfuge the middle classes only worry about money or to be more accurate the value of their homes

Many apologies Mona; my mistake, heat of the moment I guess; I was trying to remember the great characters we once had on here but was struggling as its so long since this blogroom was in any way dynamic, your name sprang to mind but I forgot that you'd hung on.MonaLott wrote: I do slightly resent your comment that I am one of those who has dropped out of this blogsite
Let's hope McB gets this site fixed because I agree, it would be interesting to guage opinion now; and again after the big Public Meeting.
A message for NickMcB:
I hope you don't miss the opportunity on November 3rd of standing on the stage in the new Hall and strongly publicising this forum as a means of discussion of the windfarm. I'm sure if you just ask the PACT committee they will let you. You should also be shouting loud at the meeting about the website you set up and kindly gave to the PACT organisation. That website could be a powerful tool of protest once its got some good stuff on it eg; local comment. Hopefully PACT have shown their gratitude towards you kind gift. Thought! Idea ! Why not put a donation facility on the PACT website so they can raise money for a fighting fund to be spent on things like posters, banners, minibuses to Dunoon for the Planning Meetings etc.
Long Haul (innit by choice)

What goes on the PACT website is PACT's decision, not mine.
Re. 'fixing' the site - it isn't broken, it is just one feature that isn't functioning. I just spent an hour reinstalling and reconfiguring the current style template with no success - sorry guys, but that is all the time I can spare right now as I have work to do.
(It isn't like 'fixing a hose' - companies with dedicated IT departments have faced and failed to solve this problem as well, so give us a break please! It could be a day's work. I'll have another go over Christmas if I have time)
On another matter, does anyone have any idea what Husker Doo is on about? He is apparently referring to a spat between the owner of Knoydart and a crofter, but I fail to see any parallels here.
