An action committee called the Lorn Windfarm Action Group met last night to discuss how to counter the plans for windfarms at Raera and, ultimately, at Clachan. They have produced a flyer and a model letter of objection which will be delivered to as many households as possible on Seil. Links to both documents are provided below:

An action committee called the Lorn Windfarm Action Group met last night to discuss how to counter the plans for windfarms at Raera and, ultimately, at Clachan.

There is, on the face of it, nothing wrong with anyone forming an "Action Committee" to discuss any issue, anywhere.
I think its right, however, that if its activities are being promoted on this, community, website then some transparency is necessary. Perhaps "NickB" could confirm the following.
1. The leading members of this group are the two biggest landowners in the area ?
2. The contact phone number for the group is a London number ?
3. Their prefered fund raising target group is those with second homes who come here for our unspoilt area, those who will be more sensitive to the likely negative hit on house prices ?
I am making no criticism of this self-appointed committee or of these three points but feel that our elected Community Council's declared strategy viz. measuring local opinion towards the proposed widfarm in advance of stating its position and taking action is a more valid route to take.

I can't believe how casual (or careless) people are. If you don't object to the wind farms now the chances are you will get one because such is the state of Wind Farm NON-planning, that unless there are strong objections, planning permission will be granted.

Do the people who are putting up these things care about the environment? My fat ass they do! This is about greed, nothing else. Behind all these applications are big energy companies like BP who will ruin an ocean , destroy a forest, wipe out indigenous species all for a quick buck.

What compensation will the local community get for the lack of amenity (being the godawful things flashing and whirring on the skyline)? What compensation will local home owners get for the loss of value in their homes? (Because the area will come less desirable for those who seek peace and tranquility). What benefits will the local community get at all apart from the bribe of one inefficient turbine? Is it worth it?

Caithness now has the highest density of wind turbines in the UK. Only now are communities. led by their MP beginning to fight to stop any further development without a serious re-think about wind farm strategy and planning. Caithness is in the vanguard and only now beginning to realise the long term ruination of its landscape. The objectors are only just beginning to find a voice and those in Seil should take a look elsewhere to learn about these things and what they can do about it if they wish, see

Remember these windfarms are long term developments. If they get the go ahead the chances are they will still be there long after you have left this life. You can't change your mind and get them removed. You can't decide afterwards they were a bad idea and get rid of them. So if you have your doubts now, you better say so or it could be too late.

I'm against windfarms but all this talk of house prices here falling (how much have they fallen in Caithness, Pentland Pirate?)makes me think;

hmmm.....wouldn't that be a good thing in that, at last, we'd have affordable housing for young people?

Perhaps the money which BP, or whichever oil company is behind this windfarm, is going to give us could be used as deposits for the buyers of the now affordable housing?

The Action Group appears perfectly legitimate to me. They actually have the best interests of the community in mind irrespective of who they are. The points you raise are not relevant to the issue at hand.

Can I suggest the Action Group targets tourists coming to the area, asking them to sign anti-windfarm petitions at the car park by the bridge and at Highland Arts. I'm sure many would be horrified to know that this beautiful little corner of Scotland could be blighted by such a monstrosity. Tell the Tour bus operators there are plans to build a wind farm and I'll bet many will add it into their commentary as they drive along. Many will be only too enthusiastic to sign a petition as they get off the coach on Seil.
