Has your photo driving licence expired?

Photo driving licences have been with us for over 10 years now. But did you realise that these licences are only valid for a 10 year period? No, neither did I?

Apparently in 1998 16,136 of us were issued with the new photocard driving licences, but the bad news apparently is that 4,570 of us have failed to realise our licences have run out of date and not renewed them. This actually means that thousands of motorists are risking being fined up to £1000.00 for driving without a valid driving licence.

Take a good look at your licence. Look at the centre of the card and check the date next to '4b'. The confusion is that there are a number of dates shown on the photocard licence. The date shown on the table showing the date for how long the driver is valid to hold a licence is usually until their 70th birthday. However, this is not the ‘licence valid to date’ which is the date next to the ‘4b’ which shows a date 10 years after you obtained the photocard licence and the date you need to renew your photocard licence by.

Potentially about 300,000 are due to expire in 2009 so be warned and take a look NOW!

Remember you could be fined £1000.00 for driving without a valid driving licence. It costs £17.50p to renew the card license. (what a great way of raising yet more taxes).

And whilst I am on about scams, if anyone is approached by the Performing Rights Society for fees for playing any sort of music in their workplace, whether it be shop, pub, garage, office, bus, boat, etc, etc, refuse to pay and tell them to take you to court. Small businesses are looking to support the first person the PRS dare to take to court. It is suspected they never will because their case is weak, and if they lose, they lose the gravy train of around £ 70 million they extort from businesses up and down the country year after year.
