Clan Gathering, Games, Parade, Pageant

Post by novus ordo seclorum »

July 25th and 26th
Edinburgh

http://www.clangathering.org/

I intend to gather with my clan for this historic event and march with them in the Parade up The Royal Mile.

It occurs to me that others may wish to take part so I am happy to offer to organise the hire of a minibus (and driver) for all those interested.

Tickets are needed to gain access to the events. Gold are sold out already, Silver are available (£95) as are Bronze but those have a restricted view at the castle for the climax (The Pageant).

It is obviously intended that you march with your own clan and wear your kilt etc.

If anyone is interested let me know through a post on this thread.

How will the clan gathering be organised? Do you simply turn up with your passport and get sorted into clans on the day???

In what order will the clans Parade up the Royal Mile?
Clans will travel up the Royal Mile in alphabetical order. This will be organised by The Gathering 2009 team at the designated meeting point.

Where is the meeting point for the Parade?
The meeting point is still to be agreed but it will be within the vicinity of Holyrood. The exact time and place will be sent to you nearer the event.

How long will the Parade take?
It is estimated the Parade will take one to two hours to get all the clans up the Royal Mile.

Hope that's helpful Smelly. Your own clan organisation may have greater detail.

Coming?

Hi Nos,

The word from my tribe is that those alphbetically in front of us know their inferiority and want to fall in behind us - where they belong! :spock: :evillaugh

Are you sure you should be casting the first stone here NOS? I believe it was you who said

Anyway nothing wrong with hawkers, immortalised along with tramps in one of my favourite songs,' Tramps and Hawkers', which my late father in law used to sing at every family gathering. I can't find any rendition of it as good as his, but the Dubliners' version here isn't too bad.

Xenophobia - an intense irrational dislike and/or fear of people from other countries

I might be a bit thick - but I can't see why my comment is xenophobic :?

............and I've nothing against hawkers

Is there a word for clanophobia? Maybe in Gaelic?

Time to bring on "The Crimson Vicar" for her first appearance I think.

To many people, particularly our Cornish cousins, to be called a Hawker is today quite insulting.

I quote from forum Rules:
"desist from the use of abusive and personal language"

First I'm wrongly accused of xenophobia...

Now it's
abusive and personal language
I'm guessing Shankers, old bean - you missed the joke completely?

I've nothing to fear and demand trial by the Crimson Vicar!

I can find no definition of "hawker" which is personal in any way, or abusive to any save, perhaps, hawkers - people who travel from place to place selling goods, sometimes aggressively according to some definitions. If people choose to be offended by this, that is there choice - abuse directed at an individual because of their profession is neither racist or disriminatory in the commonly accepted senses of the words. I shall therefore let it pass.

There may be a small group of Cornish people who use the term in a different sense, but I do not have time to check each word to ensure that it is not upsetting to some group or individual.

Your assumption that I am a "her" is interesting, and perhaps correct, perhaps not - as a person of the cloth, my gender assuming I have one is irrelevant.
Bless,

The Vicar

I humbly accept your adjudication your vicarness and look forward to hurling abuse at Eric because of his profession.

Night Star's Piss Up

Post by sleepy »

Hi fellow posters and a good New Year to you all.

Thought the Vic might have had a word with DonnieC about his potentially derisory remarks about clans A-C

Nightstar, why do you want to bring a cat into a perfectly good piss-up? :beer

A bit of role play or are you related to Rula or George perchance :meeiaou :?:
I had a Schottische last night but I'm much better now thank you!
