There's been so much rubbish written in recent weeks, I would feel I wasn't contributing if I didn't add:

This board will probably close on Jan 31st

Scrap this place, it represents only the pretended opinions of a half dozen or so fake personae, some of whom seem to believe that it is their inalienable right to spout off on your webspace slagging off the effort you put into it.

Anyone wants to set up an alternative, the software is freely available and server space can be had for buttons. Better read up the laws regarding internet publishing first, mind, and set aside plenty of time.
Thanks Herby, my thoughts exactly. In fact the current board software will no longer be supported from Jan 30th, and to upgrade to the next version will involve a substantial amount of (my) (unpaid) work just so you can all abuse me, yachties, the Community Council, newsletter editors, conservation area reviewers, Easdale Island residents, local business owners and basically anyone who disagrees with you in a snazzy new format.

At the moment the only light at the end of this somewhat dismal tunnel is Eric's spirited defence of yachties as contributors more to the local economy than to e coli levels - thanks Eric, it can't have been easy and was much appreciated.

So guys, unless there is a sudden and massive outbreak of seasonal goodwill sufficient to bring some of our less agressive posters back into the fold it is most likely that this board will not be available after the end of January, and so a five year experiment will be over. I certainly don't need the grief, and it would give me some time to concentrate on other features of the site that would both appeal more widely and present a better picture of our 'community' to outsiders. These include the Gallery, the proposed monthly calendar and perhaps a few articles written by people who will not live in fear of being called purveyors of middle class twaddle or worse.

BTW my letter on your behalf was apparently published today, but without (I am relieved to say) any mention of this forum.

Nick, I don't know why you bother.

I've been a part of this board since the very beginning and have seen it go from a place of friendship and amusing banter to somewhere where vitriolic stuff is written under a cloak of anonymity. No wonder a lot of members don't post when even spelling mistakes are leapt upon with a great deal of glee. I'm sure that those who write with such venom are nice people really.

The only time I've lost my rag is with the person who said, on this, a public board, something very unkind about the man in the red JB van - as that man is my better half I think I had reason to reciprocate.

Signing off now. Hope you all have a peaceful season. Good luck Nick!
