IN SEARCH OF TIME WASTED
Can I recommend a book to you all; "In Search of Time Wasted (Peregrinations from Seil Island") by Mike Shaw of Kilbrandon House. It really is superb. Perhaps the webmaster could put a connection from here to the Amazon site.
I'm sure most of you will like it as it tells great stories of life here over many years but maybe SeventhSeil ant Eric the Viking should avoid it as, having read their vitriol elsewhere, its written by a local laird or aristocrat and they appear to have something against the Upper Classes..
Enjoy!

Hej Magsthey appear to have something against the Upper Classes
You are making a fairly broad assumption there and I hope you can back that up. I have no particular axe to grind against anyone of any social class.
What does turn my stomach (more than lutefisk) is the sychophantic, servile toady rambings of the pseudo parvenu who seem to want us to return feudalism.

Ah!
.
Here's one I enjoyed and will re-read in the next year or so:
It's a ripping seafaring yarn about the Darien Project, Scotland's doomed attempt at empire that bankrupted the country and made the Act of Union pretty much inevitable.

So at a rough guess I would say this isn't on your Christmas reading list Eric? What does turn my stomach (more than lutefisk) is the sychophantic, servile toady rambings of the pseudo parvenu who seem to want us to return feudalism.

I wasn't referring to Mike Shaw's book, which I am sure will inciteful and written from an original perspective, I may very well obtain a copy.
What I was referring to is the stomach-churning cap-dothing that's going on.
Having read Rising Sun I can recommend too!
For a tale of dastardly deeds you might try Grass will not grow on my Grave by Mary McGrigor (yes McGrigor of that ilk)

Oh dear, here we go again.
Seil Sally, I would hardly call Mike Shaw a local laird or aristocrat dear!
Nice chap, good speaker and all that, nothing against him or his cravat, but leave off the hero worship.
His book IS interestng tho I will give you that.
My most recent reads The Historian and Time Travellers Wife
Loved them.
