attachments

I have a problem with downloading or saving attachments,
The screen which asks where to save or open the attachment is superceeded almost immediately either open or save is chosen with the download screen with the symbol of the earth and the folder and the handkerchief flying from one to the other. This will go on indefininately.
How do I cure this problem?

- Is this an attachement to an email or a link on a web page?
- What operating system / browser / email client are you using?

The information you requested -
It is only attachments in an email that I cannot open.
It downloads PDF documents without any problem.
The Operating system is Windows XP professional
The browser is Internet explorer.
The internet connection is wih Pipex
The mail server is Hotmail.

More of a work-around really - I suggested using FireFox and the problem disappeared.
