A new type of community?

Apparently the world's populations are being sucked towards life in the cities......people leaving the countryside to find work and prospects amongst the huge sprawling masses of humanity.

But a friend of mine was sick of life in the city and joined up with a group of complete strangers to buy his small share of a largish property in Cornwall which offered something of the good life, low cost housing, and the choice of working the land or to continue a 'normal' job.

The place is called Trelay, see http://www.trelay.org/downloads/Trelay%20brochure.pdf. It makes me wonder if such an idea could solve some of the difficult issues of Seil in attracting a wider range of age groups, providing cheaper housing, creating jobs, and enhancing the landscape without it being restricted to those with a bob or two.

Seems like quite a good idea, although "the good life" seems a bit twee. People should be moving to rural area's to do what the would have done in the city i.e. run biusnesses, create wealth...not find a simpler/quieter lifestyle as this just adds to the lack of opportunities.

I like the idea of buying a property as part of a group but what about the social aspects involved with this. I mean, what happens when you all start sleeping with each other and decide that enough`s a nuff!!

p.s. Cornwall`s a bit of a dive to be escaping to, from maybe...

Well said CanU...indeed moving to the country cos you hate your wife/husband and are going to "sort things out" is a popular past time in these parts.....as is leaving said wife/husband and humping a growler you wouldn't have looked twice at back home.

Keeps me in chardonnay though!! :D  :P :o :o
