Questionable planning application . . .
I see there is a new planning application for five houses at Balvicar.
Surely this is ridiculous with the roads in their current state. I for one am sick of the chicanes, mess and ever-increasing number of heavy lorries on the road.
Is this why we are getting new water and sewage, so speculators can create more unaffordable housing?
It is not as if there is any need for more non-affordable housing on the island - at least three larger houses in Balvicar have remained on the market for several months now, so the heat has obvioiusly gone out of the market.
Planning application is Ref. 07/02237/OUT
Plans viewable at Balvicar PO or on the Council website HERE
Potential departure from the Local Plan

Ach... never mind, one step closer to a gated idyll, if we could only get rid of those who work on the island it would be perfect!
I can see it now, all us old folks getting our behinds wiped by poor Polish immigrants after we have sh@ ourselves, then go to the new hall and play bingo in our velour track suits, while our pee stained husbands play a round of incapacity golf, sponsered by Stannah Chair Lifts, then in winter jet of to our home in Spain or St Andrews ,while sucking on a cheroot, or wherever it may be.....sit back and watch.....

Not one to cast aspertions (spelling?) etc but I can't help noticing that this, and other applications, are being put through a consultancy run by none other than our recently retired A & B Council Leader. Nice little earner I should think.
Also the development cost of the five house estate (think Kilmore) is stated at £650,000 which equates to base cost per house of £130,000. Now, if I know anything about property development, that indicates (factoring in overspends and profit) a minimum sale price of around £300,000 per house.
If this post and other factors concerning the application (eg. roads, services, environmental) pisses you off, then, like me, get off your backsides and put in an objection..........if this estate is built it will be simple for the developers to get permission to build more up to the old fishing lochan.

Yes, according to the council, if you want to build a house on Seil, don't.
Although I have heard telling porkies to planning hearings is perfectly ok if you intend to object!
Any way as its houses it has much more chance of going through, thank goodness he isnt going to build a shed or something usefull....

Well it certainly annoys me - for once I am in complete agreement with Mr. Blubby. If this post and other factors concerning the application (eg. roads, services, environmental) pi**es you off, then, like me, get off your backsides and put in an objection
Objections should be made (sooner rather than later) to
Area Team Leader Development Control
Planning Services
Lorn House
Albany Street
Oban

Planning application ref. No. 07/02237/OUT
Seventh - your first post nearly ruined my keyboard . . . . (explosive laughter while tea drinking syndrome) - but like all good humour a little close to the truth . . .

Perhaps we should follow the example of the Kilmelford Community Council per the planning application in our latest Oban Times. It appears they are hoping to build 7 houses!
Given who's applying I imagine planning shouldn't be too much of a problem, and then, I presume, they will organize the building of some not-for-profit "affordable" housing.
We don't know how it's being funded. We don't know who the houses will be allocated to; I'm sure someone deserved!
Well done Kilmelford for casting capitalism aside for a moment in order to better the spectrum of your community.

Re: Questionable planning application . . .
Looking at the plans available at Balvicar P.O., the houses are very large and will not be bought by any local families I'm sure!I see there is a new planning application for five houses at Balvicar.
I must agree with seil blubber that the current state of the road will not support more and more traffic. It is noticeable recently, that there appears to be more traffic around, especially commercial traffic. Imagine what it is going to be like around there if building commenced.
More affordable housing on a sensible site yes but this proposed development is just an example of the rich being greedy.

Where can I sign up?
Is it the erstwhile former council member mentioned in NOS's post who is running these, Eric? He would be ideal.I shouldn't worry too much folks - I hear they're running courses in objecting locally!
Perhaps whoever it is could post details of future courses on the forum?

Aren't you guys a bit negative about initiative and change? Shouldn't we all lighten up, get the chips off our shoulders and consider the possibility that these proposed houses might just be above the average standard for Seil and might even be a minor asset in the long term. After all, there have been a lot more negative planning issues here which really have adversely affected the place, eg the conversion of the Inshaig. But these 5 proposed houses seem to me like a minor issue and they are certainly trivial compared to some of the major building projects outlined in the Lorne plan. Yes, we need a new road but we won't get one by declining our population.
Just thought it would be fun to have a positive comment injected into this sea of negativity!

hello Spiderman,
oh well then, you can keep your spidery leggings on and just wear the kilt on top for some extra warmth..
best to leave the sporran at home, it might bang about too much when you're out climbing high buildings.
have just watched the Silver Surfer DVD, is he of your acquaintance?

Kindness is more important than wisdom, and the recognition of this is the beginning of wisdom.
Hi Swalley, Norrin is a distant extraterrestrial uncle on my mother's side. So he's not from Yorkshire. He applied for planning permission to build a silver superherohome pod on earth and got thrown out by the fascisti of both the Mafia & the UN so he just wanders the cosmos now having fun. He finds the beings he meets out there more understandable and exciting!
