Knocking right to buy on the head

Post by Seventhseil »

I see the Scottish Goverment are planning to stop the right to buy scheme....only 27 years too late.....is this a good thing or a bad thing; in general? and locally ?

Good thing!

While RTB allowed some people to get on the property ladder cheaply it subsequently ensured a huge shortfall in affordable rented property (or 'social housing' as it is euphemistically called)

It was nothing more than a cynical selling off of the family silver by the government of the day as a vote-getting and fundraising exercise.

Sadly the rescindment now is shutting the stable door after the rest of the stable has been sold, but we can hardly blame the Scottish Government in its current incarnation for this as they have only just been elected.

Good for them. I like this government more every day. :saltire
