new Seil forum The-Slate http://the-slate.freeforums.net
New alternative chat site: The Slate
After following this forum for a few years as a recent incomer and enjoying the banter and insight that it offered I have been sorry to see the decline in the quantity of contributions recently. I feel that it’s possible that if a forum were introduced where anyone could post a comment anonymously, without the need to register, it may stimulate debate. Others have told me that they agree with this and although Nick has said that he does not want to operate such a forum he has enabled me to set one up and generously offered to post a permanent link from this site.
I know that Nick has had unfortunate experiences with some contributors and its entirely possible that the new site will fail, either due to a dearth of interest, or lack of sensitivity by posters. I feel that it’s worth a try to get something started however.
Now if anyone has views on whether dogs should be banned from the golf course or cats kept indoors during the nesting season; feels that Clachan Bridge should be demolished in favour of a causeway or wants to canvas opinion for a new casino in Balvicar, they can comment on line and remain anonymous if they like. The only rule is that anyone posting shows the same respect to each other as they do when meeting face to face in the post office.
This is a link to the alternative forum http://the-slate.freeforums.net It seems quite simple but I have no expertise whatsoever in internet matters and so I would appreciate it if anyone could let me know of any problems. Once on the website click ‘chat’ then ‘create thread’ to start a new topic. You will need to enter a guest name and that seems to be it. If any difficulties are encountered I will try to help if you message me, my ‘name’ is Little Blue.

.
Good luck with the new forum Allan.
Lots of people obviously want to post anonymously, so it should be popular once people find it.
I will not be posting on it under my own name unless as a guest (though I am surprised guest posting is apparently enabled by default - you might want to change that) - but who knows, I might join the crowd if it takes off.
You will never know

Well well well .........!!
A new forum with anonymous postings
Politics free ?
Free Speech Jim !!
Interesting times ahead and all in favour if it generates a wider audience and a wider range of topics
Lol - perhaps there should be a loyalty points scheme introduced

Just returned from registering on the new site - slightly off-putting to the hoi polloi - but best wishes to the venture.
But a question to the few remaining original inhabitants of the island - Where was the original casino in Balvicar, and what would be the benefit of a new one ?

I have sent out a mass email to all users of Seil Chat (even the banned ones!) telling them about the new forum.
This should hopefully result in a few new contributors for you Allan.

Well, I've just popped in for a look - in fact, I broke my own resolution and signed up as there was something I wanted to say in response to a poster - and the new forum seems to be doing OK.
All the old Seil Chat users have received an email letting them know about The Slate, so I guess more of the usual suspects will be along in due course. In the meantime, I have destickied this post as it has hopefully done its job.
This forum will continue with its boring 'real names' policy for those who are not afraid to put their name to their thoughts and opinions.

Well, less than two weeks into the life of the new forum and already Allan has locked his first thread . . .

Ah the powers that an administrator has, we all know that power corrupts!
I thought I was bending to the wishes of the majority but I will put you down as a NO vote this time and if thats the consensus I will abide by it.

Allan, if you run the forum as a democracy it will never work. Either don't moderate it at all or do whatever you believe right without seeking approval from the membership.Allan Coutts wrote: Ah the powers that an administrator has, we all know that power corrupts!

And never seek to justify your actions - that was my cardinal mistake with this forum in the days of anonymity.

Well, The Slate is busier than here - but not a lot . . .
No sign of many of the old favourites.

I've been posting - on the 'sign' thread under my own name - and there has been an outcry to have me censored or the thread locked.
Oh the irony!

Oh you poor martyr!
Nobody was suggesting banning you - just suggesting that some of your vitriolic remarks were a bit out of keeping with the general tone of the discussion on the Slate.

Don't do it Jim! please don't descend to the 'general tone of discussion' on the 'Slate'. Resent postings have been abysmal.jimcee wrote:just suggesting that some of your vitriolic remarks were a bit out of keeping with the general tone of the discussion on the Slate.

Bill - although severely tempted, I have refrained from posting similar remarks on the Slate.
However on this site, I feel no constraint , and will continue to do so, as you probably will be aware, until NB finds an excuse to gag me.

Apologies Jim, the above was meant to be 'tongue in cheek' though the last bit was simply fair comment.Bill McDicken wrote:Don't do it Jim! please don't descend to the 'general tone of discussion' on the 'Slate'.

From reading the utter drivel spouted on the slate if anyone dares disagree with the cosy little clique of self-appointed guardians of Seil.jimcee wrote:Where do you get your paranoia from?
Now a question for you, Jim. Where do you get the idea that it is fine to come on here calling me paranoid?
I am not aware that I have personally insulted you or questioned your mental state.
