Another Prediction Jim !

Post by Gavin Rae »

Firstly Jim - I wanted to reply in a different area but realised that I would probably hijack your current thread with Bill McD - not many readers appear to use the general forum these days

I recognise you don't like predictions but here we go !! - tee hee (feeling slightly vindicated with fuel price prediction!! )

Any readers travelling to Euro Zone countries over the next few months ?

If so Snoman advises you to follow the GPB vs EURO exchange rates for travellers over the next few weeks -it's presently sitting at an all time high for several years

I predict it might even go higher before plateauing - the flattening out or drop will undoubtedly be as a result of our money brokers having concerns about who might be in power as the result of the GE in May !!! (No predictions from snoman regarding this - YET !!)

If any of you are planning trips to Euro countries and have 'flash cash' then you should consider buying some euros over the next coming weeks - but remember you can also charge credit style cards for use often at no additional cost - (have tried and like )

Gavin,
A couple of questions -
1) What is "flash cash" ? This smacks of money laundering.
2) Why do some of the words in your posting appear in dark purple characters ?
We will be visiting France shortly so will follow up your advice on the Euro rate.

Hi Jim

Well Done - you've got far too much free time methinks

I should have known better !! Ha ha

Never know if you are just taking the 'P one fifty five' ?

Anyway Snoman knows nothing about ' money laundering' !!

Would you use Persil ? Ariel ? Bio or Cool Wash ??

I have always understood 'Flash Cash ' to be spare cash that is surplus to everyday requirement

As for ' purple highlighted words ' Sorry too cryptic or simply you need a new monitor
- I don't see this !!! Snoman only sees things in black and white with the odd carrot thrown in

By the way it's just started snowing

On a serious note like you I am visiting France on several occasions soon - if the euro was to hit 1.30 then I would buy immediately however I think it will level at about 1.28.5 - still VG !!!

Gavin,
It beats me to know why 72 visits have been made to this inane exchange.
Perhaps it's a welcome relief from the more serious stuff.
I don't think our administrator approves of anything of a frivolous nature.
It took me a few doodles to work out the significance of "P155" ( do you make these up yourself, or am I just out of touch with the current vernacular?) - but not guilty of taking it.
As to the purple capital letters in your original message - they had all disappeared by the time I accessed it again to check that we had a clean bill of health on the content being free of anything objectionable.

Jim

Why so many views in such a short period of time ?

Methinks Jim C has a 'cult following' on the forum ................... !!!

Certainly no P 1 five five taking place with this observation

And if the administrator didn't like it would it not have already disappeared

Jim likes to think that his posts are wickedly controversial and liable to prompt me to random acts of deletion and general abuse of my (admittedly godlike) powers.

So maybe there is a sense of humour lurking somewhere within our administrator - he of the godlike powers.
But in a previous correspondence he alluded to "bots" as disinterested parties who accessed these hallowed forum chronicles, and were not true followers of the wisdom (or frivolity) or the illustrious content, being purveyed.
It would be interesting to know (if our almighty -his own words- administrator) has the information on what proportion of the hits to these musings are genuine people who follow the outpourings with avid curiosity, and what are nameless "bots" who make us think that we have an audience "out there".
A serious question for you there NB, in amongst all the frivolity, but worthy of your consideration.
Gavin - apologies for the digression from what was an interesting exchange of pleasantries - but who knows where this particular thread might lead.

Hi Jim

For info

It goes without saying that the Euro v GBP £ rate is going to go through the roof as a result of the Greece election result

I understand it is likely to hit 1.34 euro to pound by the end of the month - with Spain now having similar thoughts to Greece it may climb even higher

A former school mate of mine who still works the money markets down south thinks it could go as high as 1.48 by Easter time

Methinks a good time to visit Europe over the next few months apart from Switzerland where the exchange rate is 17% worse off

Thanks Gavin for the update.
Got my first batch of euros today at 1.27 - last summer I was getting 1.16 so things are looking up.
And with pump prices still depressed, getting there will only cost an arm instead of an arm and a leg.
There is an old saying "Make hay while the sun shines". but I reckon that haymaking should seize every opportunity, regardless of the weather - especially despite some of the rubbish that has been dished up recently.

Hi Jim C

For info

Was out in France skiing last week - getting 1.31€ to GBP£ - Very good methinks !!

Fuel - Diesel off the autoroute was around a £1 a litre - as you probably know the price difference in France is significantly less so across petrol \ diesel so averaging all fuels around 1.10€

Bought some fuel in Geneva - also around £1.06 per litre diesel

Lol got well screwed however on M6 Lancaster and paid £1.23 per litre (diesel) to get home !!

Bill - you mention booze at football grounds - an issue with you ( and Mr Salmond) currently ?

What are YOUR personal thoughts on this - and please do not quote the SNP viewpoint as published in the Scotsman today !!!!

I used to find it hilarious several years ago that I could go and watch Glasgow Warriors playing rugby at Firhill on a Friday night and have a pint and return to the same venue 48 hrs later and .............. Zero - enough said !!!

Is it not time to revisit this after 30 years

Strange that Mr Salmond feels that the SNP and their supporters believe that Scots are somehow morally superior to the English, but the English can be trusted with alcohol and the Scots can't!

Plenty more like the above.
And no I don't have the answer to why the 6-Nations can pass in boozy friendship and an Old Firm fixture, or any other big match ( Chelsea?), will result in unpleasantness.
Have things improved from 30yrs ago?, on the surface yes, deep down? I don't know, if you visit any Glasgow pub today you'd still be well advised to be noncommittal regarding the fitba.
