Are we being re cabled for 'superfast broadband' ?
Does anybody know ?

Gavin, Being a nontechnofile I understand from asking one of the guys working at this project that this is NOT 'superfast broadband being run in the ducts but the piping, that will eventually carry the cabling that will bring it.
He didn't know when that will be. He also said that the poor broadband service we have here is because of heavy use irrespective of our individual ISPs!

Don't Blame Me - I voted YES!

Thanks Donnie
Ohh well better resign myself to another year of 6.88 mb 'Warp Speed' .............. !!!!
Looking at BT's performance in Oban over the past few months that should perhaps read 'year's '

.
The BT site still says
Coming soon
Your area will be enabled within the next six months and we’ll provide more details nearer the time. At the moment you can’t order Superfast Fibre.
I run a web design business and find 6.5Mb more than adequate.
It's only people who want to watch telly and download films who need more - and even then I find Iplayer will play on high quality without buffering most of the time.
The people who are losing out are those further from the exchange. Some get less than 1Mb. I can't see them getting fibre at any point in the future as they will be too far from any street cabinet to justify laying new lines to their houses.

Personally its not so much about the ability to download films etc -
To me it's more about being able to have several people connected at the same time doing a variety of things without disruption
I'm told Finland is the place to live - their government programme promises to have 98% of the population connected to speeds nearing a ton by 2018

Gavin,
Finland may be the utopia for a broadband bonanza, but it has some drawbacks - a severely cold climate -a bottle of wine that costs an arm and a leg - and a next door neighbour called Russia. there are swings and roundabouts.
