Seil Skiff Regatta and Ceilidh

Post by NickB »

.
The Second Annual Seil Regatta and Ceilidh will be held on Saturday 31 May

Rowing will be clockwise around the island (Seil!) with a crew change half way round at Hunter's Quay - the start is at Ellenabeich Pier @ 1300, through Clachan Bridge from about 1430 and a finish off Easdale at around 1700. Weather permitting, of course. We hope to have several visiting skiffs - the Isle of Mull Coastal Rowing Club has already accepted the challenge!

There will be an evening BBQ at Seil Hall from 1800 - everyone welcome (pay BBQ) followed by a Ceilidh at 1930. The music will be provided by Nell Kennedy & friends who are returning to Seil by popular demand, with a guest appearance by Seil Sound once again. Entrance £5 (free for under 16s) BYOB

Raffle prizes have been generously donated by Easdale Seafoods, Leiper Gallery (Glasgow) and Seafari Adventures (Oban) as well as individuals. Other donations very gratefully received.

Please come and cheer on Seil's very own community skiff - the ceilidh was a great night out last year!

The start is has now been amended to 1100 off Ellenabeich Pier, with the first boats expected through the bridge at around 1230 (VERY low water). The skiffs will be piped through the bridge ... the second leg will start, with new crews, as before and finish at Ellenabeich around 1700.

The second leg will not now be going through the bridge until around 1500 hours. Sorry for all the chopping and changing and hope you will still be able come to cheer the crews through the bridge!

Crews taking part: Carrick, Pittenweem, Isle of Mull, Mid-Argyll, Isle of Luing (a St Ayles skiff and a Shetland 6-oar skiff) and Seil's very own community skiff, Selkie.

Final results after two legs (adapted because of the haar etc)

1. Isle of Mull
2. Isle of Luing
3. Isle of Seil

Pittenweem, Carrick, Mid Argyll and Isle of Luing II also took part.

Challenging races (four and eight kilometres) and also unique conditions; well done to all who rowed on both Saturday and Sunday!

Just saying - but most of our crew are in possession of bus passes - more younger people are needed to try rowing our community skiff so that we can beat Luing and Mull next time around! Come and have a go ...
