Community Council elections

Post by NickB »

.
Community Council elections are taking place for all community councils within the Argyll and Bute area in October 2013. The formal Notice of Election will be advertised locally during the week beginning 9 September 2013. Nomination packs will be available from the week beginning 9 September from local area Service points, on the council’s website and from the Returning Officer, Kilmory, Lochgilphead, PA31 8RT.

The nomination period will run from Thursday 12 September to Friday 27 September 2013 (closing date). Forms must be lodged with the Returning Officer no later than 4.00pm on Friday 27 September 2013.

If you wish to become a community councillor you must be a resident within the community council area and be on the Local Government Electoral Register.

With 8 vacancies and 9 candidates it looks as though there might even have to be a ballot this time.

According to the SECC web page they can have up to 10 members. So ... no ballot.

Well, we've just got a ballot paper with 9 names asking us to vote for no more than eight candidates, so it actually is an election of sorts.

Very democratic - but I would have thought that they would welcome as many members as they could get - and it will be quite a headache for the people counting the votes at Kilmory- but maybe they will get overtime -and add to the defecit in the budget.
And someone is going to feel left out in the cold,

A 'lose lose' situation - lots of money and effort wasted and someone who wants to contribute to Seil's welfare feeling rejected. Nuts.
