I am not being unkind but not only is the tattered saltire deteriorating at an alarming rate but I think the pole may be getting shorter too!!! Is the flag committee not going to investigate,as I think Moonraker may be practicing some sabotage.... and I think we could perhaps get Spidey and tinkerbell on the case... Those who have wings shall fly!!!!

VIVE LA ECOSSE!!!

How were the roundabout flags in Oban - any new ones :?:
I will look for the good and beauty in everything around me .... carpe diem!

having inspected the flags in Oban, i do believe most flags are one sided, seil sally, i dont think 'dnaltocs' is out of the ordinary... look at the USA flag for example, if it was printed on both sides, the 50 state stars would b on the left corner on both sides, however the pattern shows through to the back so is therefore in the right handside corner.

all 12 flags seem to be flying happily and more securely in comprison to the one on the putting greens in Easdale! Poor wee thing, think its going to take a battering like the one at seaview in this fine August weather we're having!

Let's hope it doesn't stop the Green Goblins from completing the balvicar road, i hear there was a lorry blocking the road there today...
What were to happen if there was an emergency and no signal on the phone to reach help?!?!?
Hello. Iam the Happiness Fairy, I've sprinkled happy dust on you. So, Smile dammit. This sh*t is expensive!!!!

A flag has never stopped us before. We will continue to build where we want as the local council know the benefit to them in keeping us English in the area.

My Anglian friend, welcome to the forum. Your new pronouncements here and elsewhere on this blog bring to mind a local story (topical given the current water board's hole-digging) which I hope you will take to heart, as follows:

---------------------

A local Seil man walking through a field sees a stranger drinking water from a hole in the ground, a pool, with his hand.

The Seil man shouts "Awa ye feel hoor that's full O Sharn"

"(Don't drink the water, it's full of s ** t.)"

The man shouts back "I'm English, Speak English, I don't understand you".

The Seil man shouts back "Use both hands, you'll get more in."

KAPOOOWWW! Didn't mean to sound spiteful (just got a dry sense of humour) but have indeed noticed the demise of the old favourite bloggers. So, in case it really is me that scared 'em off, this will be my final blog on this site. Relax and return, old-timers. I'll be better off Stateside tackling the real Green Goblin! WHOOSH!! KEBAMM! SO LONG, SEIL!! AND GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL....................

This board used to be informative, friendly, funny and witty - I've been here since it was started though under another name.

I've seen it become childish, stupid and pathetic with the antiScot and sexist posts.

I am English born, female, and have lived here for over 20 years, most of those years spent nursing in the Oban hospitals. If anyone ever made any racist comments to me I was always staunchly defended by my Scottish colleagues, and the recent comments on this board, which were obviously made to upset and annoy, make me uncomfortable.

Therefore I'm joining Spidey, logging off, and leaving those of you who are left to enjoy your 'fun'.

Bye.

I've never lived on Seil, but only been there on holiday. And when I did, I liked what I saw to the point that I thought I might like to live there. So I joined the site as a way of finding out if it would be a happy place to live in...........and I have to say I've been sorry to see evidence of underlying tensions that seem to split the community on many issues. I've often provoked, often unsuccessfully, just to see the reaction, but the English / 'Scotch' slagging war takes things to a new low. Referring to the Scots as 'Scotch' is particularly ignorant but to suggest that Bannockburn and Braveheart prove that Scotland defeated the English is to conveniently forget that Scottish forces were beaten in battle by the English time and time again over many hundreds of years. Perhaps I'm lucky in that I have Scottish and English parents and have lived in both parts of the UK for large parts of my life. I don't have to dislike one or other because I am both.

Have you tried breeding together as a means of bringing community harmony?

Perspective please - dont be hasty (to Nonny and Spidey)

Dear Nonny - the trolls have only been in full spate since the beginning of August, barely two weeks. Surely our online community can deal with a little tension like this without heading for the hills?

Spidey, this board needs you - first time I have found your arachnoidness to be lacking in perspective.

The trolls have had a shot fired across their bows - lets see if they take heed or not. In the meantime I have punished Moonraker for his dubious community attitude by changing his avatar to something more in harmony with the local scene . . .

Nick, be fair, give Moonraker a Union Jack. To my mind that's more in harmony with the mixed community on Seil; something that represents you all.

Something that strikes me when I go to the US is the massive stars and stripes you see flying everywhere. They went to war against each other, north and south, and became the United States. California and New Hampshire are as far apart as Norway and Egypt and originally had very different laws and culture... in some ways still do, but they are equally proud to fly the Stars and Stripes everywhere.

I'm half and half so I can't understand what makes some (a minority) hostile to the English.

Union Jack I don't think so not on Seil. The England flag has been flown everywhere we beat people in battle it should remail the English flag. Go on Nick give him back his flag to show there are no bad feelings. He did nearly say sorry.

8) WHOOSH Hey, Nick B. You say I may have lost perspective. But, to my mind, you may have. We shouldn't need a God figure changing peoples' Avatars, eliminating trolls etc. Let democracy work. Equilibrium will be restored by natural means. Otherwise the site becomes artificial and censored and hence a waste of space/time. We owe you a helluva lot for establishing and organising this site but please let it evolve naturally. I appreciate your concerns but have faith. :) :) Come back "a nonny mouse" . We need nice folk around here (if you do, I might return from USA). Come back too Pentland Pirate. And please give the English lad his flag back. Let the folks slug it out - right will out and we'll be the better for the whole experience. Whether we are Scottish, English or even, for heaven's sake, Danish, let's say what we think. That was the point of it all, after all. And, if you really want to be interesting and honest and open, let's have a vote on whether we should get rid of anonymity - THAT is perhaps the real way to improve the quality of this site! :?: :!:  8) ZOOM

OK Spidey, I'm back :)

Glad you're around Nick, I think this must be the first time you've had to hand out the boxing gloves  Are you still on the boat? Got any spaces left?

At the moment our provocative little poll shows a majority in favour of censorship, but it would take a massive majority to consider going down that route. Spidey is right, things should be allowed to evolve naturally.

English Local, lighten up. The poll was intended to make people take a sideways look at what was going on and hopefully smile a bit. Moonraker can reinstate his avatar of choice any time he wants . . . although personally I find flags can be a hassle (see below).

Nonny, we are on our way home although we are being held up by bad weather. We are currently in Dublin, but we may get up to Ardglass today in N. Ireland - just waiting for the latest weather forecast. When we do cross the border sailing past Carlingford Loch we must remember to take the Irish courtesy flag down as it would not go down well in N. Ireland - especially today, which is the official start of the marching season.

I don't like flags much myself, too many battles have been fought over or under them. Maybe someone should design a Seil flag?

:) :) :) Good news, nonny. We need you. Thanks for the pic but it looks like Charlotte, the one that bit me in the first place (as opposed to where she bit me in the second place)!

Nick, good interventions yesterday - they were needed. Don't flag. Safe home.

Don't know if the flag owner at Seaveiw has bowed to pressure from this forum or quite simply looked out his/her window - either way, it would seem the tatters have been removed and a replacement flown.
Let's hope the new one lasts a little longer than the previous! :P
