A reply to holidaymaker et al.

Post by Jenn Jones »

As a member of the Tigh an Truish bar staff I would firstly like to offer my unreserved apologies if anyone's experience at the TnT was not a pleasant one.

I do however feel compelled to point out that not only was there not a "young lady" behind the bar on the afternoon in question (it was in fact a 6 foot, bearded man) but there were two "young ladies" sitting in the bar watching the tennis that are also members of staff who would have simply not allowed this to happen. I am not accusing anyone of lying here I would hasten to add! I have been in a similar situation on more than one occasion where it has seemed to take forever to be served when in reality it was most probably only a couple of minutes.

I also know the manager rather well and can tell you that he was hardly aware that this forum existed let alone ever registered to post a reply on it so that is why there has been no response until now, for which, again, apologies.

I would also like to reiterate that custom, in whatever form (tourist/local), is always, always (!!) valued. We rely on trade from tourists and without our wonderful locals the TnT wouldn't be the place it is. (Which I am proud of).

For those of you who remember Peter Reid.... I remember him telling me once that the day him and Louise moved to the island they called into the pub for a coffee one morning (probably about half 11 or something). Well they waited and waited and no one appeared!! So they carried on to their new house and decided they would come back that evening for a more exciting drink. They came into the Tigh an Truish every single evening after that for a drink and a chat with Miranda and everyone else. (I don't know if he ever told Miranda about that morning!!) What I am trying to say is that mistakes happen, people are only human and that Andy Murry being in a Wimbledon final is bloody brilliant!!!!!

Please, please, next time something like this happens (with us or anywhere else) say something at the time. This may or may not be damaging to us, there is probably no way of knowing, but it is upsetting to see that one incident that could have so easily been dealt with has caused all of this ill feeling to so many people.

As regular visitors to the Isle of Seil, me and my partner decided to visit the TnT today as a result of these discussions, to see what the fuss was about.

We were made to feel very welcome, the beer and coffee were excellent and the atmosphere in the pub, from those who were obviously both tourists and locals, was friendly. The young woman behind the bar was very helpful, and thankfully nobody seemed obsessed with sports.

We look forward to visiting your island again in the coming summers.

Many thanks to everyone who has made us feel so welcome over the last ten days.

No disrespect but move on !!

If you look at Trip Advisor the T And T is somewhere you would want to visit !!!

Visitors to the island will not read the Seil Forum firstly !!! (Sorry Nick !!)

They will however research local pubs hotels eating out etc via Trip Advisor

Believe me !! (And if you get a bad run of negatives it can seriously affect your business)

The T and T is highly rated and I hope they strive to keep it that way
