Re: Aliens on the Island!!!

Hi Jim,

I'll get back to you soon with a suitable A5 flyer.

I think a run of about 100 will suffice and will hand post them around the target areas we'll be doing a group HB pull for people to also tackle their own gardens.

Thanks again for the offer.

Regards Stevie

Re: Aliens on the Island!!!

Hi Jim, A very generous offer! Please pass on my thanks. Perhaps in this instance with time against us... a shorter print run, perhaps only 50 to 100 this year, that can be posted to houses nearest the HB aflicted areas. Allowing a targeted effort against HB before thry go to seed in August. This co...

Re: Aliens on the Island!!!

Hi All, We need to organise another coordinated pull. Any ideas for the venue (other than the TnT again) for a HB bash? I've walked the length of Clachan Seil and seen HB quite widely but thinly seeded along the length. We also need to get a flyer out before we knock on unsuspecting doors to try and...

Re: Aliens on the Island!!!

Good few hours of work put in by all yesterday. And well deserved pint afterwards too! We will need to revisit to clear up the straglers and clear the area properly but we're up for it! Please can everyone keep an eye out for HB in your own gardens and near where you walk and pull the plants whenver...

Re: Aliens on the Island!!!

Hi All, Just a reminder that it's the Himalayan Balsam Pull day on the Puilladobhrain path tomorrow. Meet by the TNT car park at 10:00 am, all you'll need is a pair of strong gardening gloves and yourself. We can retire to the TNT when we've finished for a drink or some lunch. See you all there. Ste...

Re: Aliens on the Island!!!

Getting rid of Himalayan Balsam is one of the more successful INNS eradications you can undertake. Unlike most other plants, the seeds from HB don't last more than one year. So if you pull the plants this year they will be gone forever. It is quite fragile, the stems snap easy and the plants are eas...

Re: Aliens on the Island!!!

Hi Jim, There are a few angles to this subject. Ecologically – a non-native plant will either struggle or fail to adapt to a new environment, or become invasive. The ones which are invasive will take over ground from native plants. Every plant you see has taken the space, nutrient and sunlight that ...

Re: Aliens on the Island!!!

Hi there. How about meeting at the bridge carpark and next Saturday 20th June, say about 10 am. A good place to start would be at the top of the small road behind the Tigh an Truish up at the gate where the pathway to Puilladobhrain begins. We could pull the Himalayan Balsam from there down to the b...

Re: Having a Mone

Jim, this is far more serious that any mercenary party one-upmanship. Michelle Mone has publically told the whole world that she is leaving Scotland as it is an “Angry hate filled country”… “that I don’t feel safe in any more”. She claims to have been called a C*** on twitter over 2 dozen times by “...

Re: The Scotland Bill - Curate's Egg or Stinking Fish?

I agree on your last point Jim. The cut and thrust, punch and counter punch of Westminster politics is quite alien to most people and comes across as boorish and juvenile at times. The SNP MPs down there are playing the game as well but the press are using it to set them up as being disrespectful of...

Re: Aliens on the Island!!!

Hi All, That is us moved to the island permanently! Yay! Lots of tidying and putting away of stuff ahead (probably for months!). One thing that took a bit of our time was dealing with the spring growth in the garden. And yes, back again is the Himalayan Balsam!!! At this time of year they look like ...

Re: Finally - a Scottish Labour Party ?

I think it's more complicated than that Jim. The Labour party just did not convince their traditional labour voters that they were against austerity or were going to redact the bedroom tax or welfare cuts. This showed in the labour vote right across the UK. They either went for Tories (if you can't ...
