Re: SHOCK POLL. 67% want independence...... from Scotland
Not a pretty discussion is it? I have a feeling that nationalism never is. It has often been a case of identifying some group that you can blame for your problems. The argument then ceases to matter.

Re: The proposed Clachan Wind Farm
Hi Beetlejuice Probably worth braving the rain and buying Scottish farmer – it has a 16 page special pull-out section on farm-scale renewables and discusses the grant issue in depth. These links give some of the background. http://scottish-schools.gov.uk/Resource/Doc/197434/0101993.pdf http://www.sc...

Re: The proposed Clachan Wind Farm
A recent EU ruling (see this week's Scottish Farmer) may have implications for the proposed wind farm. Basically, it seems developers will not be able to claim both an SRDP grant to build the farm and also the FIT (Feed in Tariff) payments which are very generous and guaranteed for 20 years. Also, m...

Re: The proposed Clachan Wind Farm
I disagree with Nick B's view that there is no CO2 saving for wind-generated electricity cf. fossil fuel. There is a very big saving even allowing for back-up generation requirement, which is not a big problem with a large grid (connected to France too) unless wind becomes a very big contributor to ...

Re: The proposed Clachan Wind Farm
I think getting your knickers twisted about government grants for wind farms is just tilting at windmills. Scottish agriculture received £600m in subsidies last year. Four farmers received over £1m individually. Landowners worth hundreds of millions got huge handouts from tax payers. You don’t even ...

Nick - if your right about man-made global warming then your first main threat to our species will solve your second - so we're all right then! - or are we?

The Joy of Sheep
Silly poem about the joys of keeping a small sheep flock. The Joy of Sheep You free your tup among the ewes. Just thirty damsels, young and sweet. He hopes there’s always one on heat, so he knows always whom to choose. But life is always hit and miss. Each parasite, with dreadful art, will colonise...

Re: Balvicar Stores
Hi all Two of my local villages (Kirkmichael and Straiton in Ayrshire) now have community-run village shops. The Kirkmichael shop has just opened in the past few weeks and many of my close friends are actively involved in it. We don't have a post office but, even so, the work and commitment needed h...

shows the power from wind and other sources in real time - scroll down to "Generation by Fuel Type". It was 1.3% from wind in the Uk in the past half hour. During the recent cold spell this figure rested at less than 0.5% - high demand but no wind!

The Other Half
It's about a voyage north form the Clyde - ultimately to Seil. The Other Half Forget farming, forget horses – just forget. We’re off to sail the waters of the Clyde. The usual suspects all assembled. The dinghy piled high – the water very near. And is there gin aboard? Aye and whisky too, partnered ...

Eric the Viking’s and Longshank’s fears of forum highjacking by a single issue group could be justified. There is no conspiracy but the oldgit should come clean. I have followed the Seil Chat for several years with much interest and amusement but, as a non-resident, would not normally presume to tak...
