Re: The 45
The idea was ditched because it would have cost the Scottish government £500m in subsidies to the 32 Scottish councils, and also would have seen a £2 billion cut to Scotland’s block grant, by implementation of the Barnett formula.

Re: Would Scotland be the 14th richest country in the world?
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! There it flies over the top of Nick and his cronies heads. That is PRECISELY why: Prof John Kay, formerly on the First Minister's Council of Economic Advisers, said it was a "mistake" for voters to think claims of an independent Scotland being one of the world's we...

Re: Would Scotland be the 14th richest country in the world?
Oh, you don't like it done that way? Dear, dear. You ought to look very carefully at the Yes Campaign material that they put out, which is ALL done on this basis. And you love that, can't get enough of it. Lap it up, it's all soooo gooood! Besides I haven't changed the meaning of the figures or pre...

Re: Would Scotland be the 14th richest country in the world?
From BBC Scotland March 2014 regarding how the Yes Campaign tried to mislead the voters: The latest figures we have for Scotland's GDP are for 2012, and including a share of UK offshore oil the figure is £145bn. This would put Scotland at about 57 in the UN's list of national GDP - between Iraq and...

Watching that video reminded me of this, somehow. 'Scotland small?' Scotland small? Our multiform, our infinite Scotland small? Only as a patch of hillside may be a cliché corner To a fool who cries ‘Nothing but heather!’ where in September another Sitting there and resting and gazing around Sees no...

Kelpies, etc.
As much as I think that the tourism industry in some ways hamstrings Scotland, while reading the article on the BBC about Andy Scott’s Kelpies, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-27066348 I wondered what if a series of sculptures were rolled out across Scotland, illustrating, perh...

‘I do know what I honestly believe’. This does not mean that what you know is true, or that what you honestly believe is true. You propose that Scotland will become very socialist, then proceed from there to ask what socialist countries have been successful. Your assertion that Scotland will likely ...

Innes Newton wrote: ‘The Yes Campaign needs to wake up to the fact that if it is successful in winning a Yes vote, it could shatter some of the good things we take for granted, i.e the natural balance that has been established for life in the UK for over 300 years.’ What is meant exactly by ‘natural...
