If the above line of quotes appears on this post you will see that the instructions you gave about including a quote (despite being followed to the letter) have not worked for me.
What I had intended to include as a quote was a post by nick b which included capital letter references, which may mean something to some of the intelligensia reading the post, but were completely lost on me, and I presume most of the readers.
If the post is to have some meaning to the general public then the use of initial letters for some system or organisation that we ordinary mortals have never heard of, is counter productive.
As a final rejoinder - because the quote system did not work for me I was unable to quote the reference letters mentioned above, as there seems to be no facility for accessing the forum while composing a reply.

Instructions worked OK for me.

The problem is that if you just hit the 'quote' button, as I have just done, the whole quote will be pasted into the message. I guess the next step would be to edit the text. I tried highlighting the bit I wanted but it still put in the full quote.

Press the 'quote' button. You'll see everything from the post you want to quote from.

Delete everything you don't want to use from that quote between {quote="whoever it is you're quoting"} and {/quote} but make sure your brackets are [ ] and not { } like I've just used!

Yes

Did you click on 'quote' FIRST, before clicking 'reply'?

Nick, could you move all these posts about how to get quotes into another thread - say "How the site works"? Things are getting a bit fragmented here!

MCT stands for Marine Current Turbines Ltd.

Quote:
EMEC stands for The European Marine Energy Centre, which is a UKAS accredited test and research centre focusing on wave and tidal power development based in the Orkney Islands, UK.
[/quote]

Brodie is obviously on the same wavelength as NickB - but obviously not mine.
Thanks for elucidating on MCT and EMEC (I will probably have forgotten these by tomorrow) but then he throws another wobbly at us with UKAS.
I managed to get all the above stuff on to this form by clicking on the bottom right QUOTE.
But it gave the whole posting which filled the screen and would not let me add my own piece at the bottom. The only way round this was to delete the top part of the quote, to leave a usable space at the bottom - even now the quote stuff at the top is not in the nice blue box and has all sorts of brackets and stuff.
Heigh ho- lets see what happens after posting.

I agree with Beetlejuice, operational issues concerned with 'quotes' are distracting from this renewables thread.

I appologise UKAS stands for The United Kingdom Accreditation Service which is the sole national accreditation body recognised by government to assess, against internationally agreed standards, organisations that provide certification, testing, inspection and calibration services.

Just a suggestion as I do not seem to be the only one having problems with quotes.
There is a long list of forum rules but there is absolutely nothing for beginners on forum instructions on how to go about the intracies of posting.
Might I humbly suggest that a primer on how to go about the various options would be a good thing, and might even encourage others to contribute.

Try the FAQ button up at the top of the page - it is pretty extensive and comprehensive.

If you can't find the button I am talking about CLICK HERE

Has it got anything to do with the little boxes at the bottom of the page?

Extensive and comprehensive it may be but the word QUOTE or any indication of how to use it does not appear anywhere.

Despite f.ollowing previous instructions that quote stuff at the top of this post did not have that nice blue box, and on surveying it on site decided to give the bottom right quote a whirl - no good with the top stuff and now a
after my own message
